RV-8T Status
Following initial successful flight tests of the first privately flown aircraft with an Innodyn turbine in early August, subsequent flight testing revealed an issue with air flow/cowling design in the RV-8T. During these flights, the turbine was unable to reach its full designed power rating, and it was determined the cause was inadequate air flow and circulation. The cowling has been redesigned (see image), and ground testing indicates the problem appears to have been resolved. Unfortunately, before flight testing could resume, the test pilot developed a medical problem and was hospitalized. He has recently been released from the hospital and is now making a full recovery. Based on his recovery, it is expected that flight testing of this aircraft will commence in about two weeks, and we will be following their progress closely. A second image below also shows the panel configuration.
